Savoring the In-Between
If ever there was a month symbolic of transition it would be September.
Standing between summer and fall, September graciously ushers in new rhythms and routines. Still the days are warm, but now the nights are cool. Leaves are fading from green to yellow. A kind of hush falls over everything as yards empty out of children who are back in school. Campfires and starlight make the nights feel cozy.
September feels like a gradual end to summer and a soft start to fall.
Not always are endings so gradual. Often they come without announcement or fanfare. A sudden stop if you will. Endings can be jarring and unexpected, leaving us off-kilter and emotional.
New things and fresh starts can feel hard and overwhelming. We can feel unprepared and under-qualified. Sometimes it feels like being thrown into the deep end without a floatie. The learning curve can be steep.
That's what makes September special. There's a gentleness to it. Even with the return of school and church activities filling the calendar, somehow the restored routine is comforting.
September is for savoring. Soak in the lasts of the summer: the last swimming, the last campfire, the last barbecue. Marvel at the changing colors, delight in apple-everything and bright yellow sunflowers. Let pumpkin spice season and sweater weather wave to you from October and just enjoy right now. For autumn is not yet. |
This week's Momster Monday was about the magic of "right now" and "not yet." While you're there, check out this week's Thoughtful Thursday and take a deep breath.
If you're feeling pulled into the not yet or sucked back into yesterday or like you're just kind of living in default mode, consider booking a Starter Session with me. I'd love to show you have beautiful right now is and help you shift out of neutral. |
